iMovie '08 - the good, the bad and the deaf

In regards to "filmmaking" I'm a novice, I know a little here and there but this isn't my day job, so keep in mind my comments are from someone who is a tech savvy amateur. With all that out of the way, I must say that iMovie '08, the newest release from Apple, is a nice refresh of the previous version but very disappointing when it comes to handling audio. Apple's big selling point for iMovie is that they completely rewrote it from scratch gearing it for the goal of producing finished product in 30 minutes, which is nice, but I think they might have thrown out the baby with the bathwater.

Shooting LA

I was in LA this last weekend, took the opportunity to shoot some video. About halfway through our excursion, I realized I didn't really have much of a plot or story arc. So now I have a bunch of video with no real cohesion other than they're from the same geographic area. This should be a nice challenge, perhaps one thats out of my league. After I finish up some work stuff, I'll start crackin' on it.

Camera's Here

So now I've got the camera, time to pick up a few accessories. I'll post some sample video soon.

FYI its a Panasonic GS-400 I picked up on eBay.

Anticipation

I've always wanted to do something with media. Years ago I toyed with the idea of going to film school, but figured studying film formally probably wouldn't work for me. Instead I studied computers and have carved out a comfortable living doing a job I truly enjoy. In the back of my mind, the secret desire to do something artistic has been nagging me for years. I've been in a few bands, written a few songs; dabbling mostly, but now I think I'm zeroing in on something that could be a quantifiable hobby.
